"The Echo Maker: A Novel"

by Richard Powers From the author of "A Time of All Singing" (one of my favorite books of all time) comes this intriguing story with skilled and wonderful writing. Recent National Book Award winner for fiction, "The Echo Maker" is an intriguing story about a young man who becomes brain-damaged after an auto accident; after the accident, he recognizes everyone but his sister, whom he thinks is fake. His recovery at the hands of a famous psychologist occurs at the flyaway for Crane migration, and is filled with the starkness of the Nebraska plains setting.

Recently released, this version of the family classic should be in everyone's library for the illustrations alone. An excellent gift

"Clerks II"

Rated R (For pervasive sexual

and crude content including aberrant sexuality, strong language

and some drug material.) The film picks up 10 years after Kevin Smith's original cult classic. The characters are still in dead-end jobs, and trying to move past them - specifically, they start working at Mooby's, a mega-corporate, cartoon-y fast food experience whose colorful uniforms pair ironically with the colorful language.

"Superman Returns" Directed by Bryan Singer, the 21st century Superman redux finds Superman (Brandon Routh) just after he has defeated General Zod and company. A trip back to his home planet (recently discovered by astronomers) reveals that Krypton is now nothing but rubble, and if Superman doesn't act quickly, Earth will be soon as well. While he was been away, Superman discovers that his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) has been hatching a plot to destroy North America, and his love, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), has become engaged to another man. Superman must fight to save the world and the one person he loves the most in it.
