Boys and Girls Club victorious over Vineyard
The Nantucket Boys and Girls Club football team avenged an early season loss to Martha's Vineyard with a 28-8 win on Saturday, capping off a successful first year of middle school football competition.

The Boys and Girls Club football team avenged an earlier loss to Martha's Vineyard with Saturday's victory. Jake Malloy (21) scored a touchdown, recovered a fumble and had 10 tackles on the day.
Nantucket finished its inaugural season with a 6-2 record. Besides the earlier loss at the Vineyard, the only other defeat came at the hands of Falmouth.

Fullback Jake Molloy gave Nantucket the lead with a 40 yard sprint at the 1:40 mark of the first quarter. He also added the two point conversion run to make it 8- 0.

In the first drive of the second half, tailback Michael Molta scored on a 55-yard touchdown run. Nantucket maintained that 14- 0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Nantucket defense made a tremendous goal-line stand to stop the Vineyard on the 2-yard line. The Vineyard got on the board when Nantucket fumbled in its own end zone. The Vineyard recovered for a touchdown and converted the two point attempt to cut the Nantucket lead to 14-8.

After an off-sides call, the Vineyard tried a second on-sides kick, but it was recovered by Molloy.

Nantucket's Andrew Benson hit a long punt that was fumbled by the Vineyard and recovered by Molloy on the 4-yard line. Larry Bo Woolfolk scored from four yards out and Molloy added the two-point conversion.

On the ensuing kickoff, Molloy stripped the ball from the Vineyard runner and advanced it 10 yards to the 24. Benson then threw a key block to spring Woolfolk for an 18- yard touchdown run for the final, 28-8, score.

Quarterback Matt Bulmer completed three passes, including a 30- yard completion to Benson. Molta carried the ball 12 times for 73 yards while Molloy rushed 7 times for 68 yards.

Molloy led the Nantucket defense with 10 tackles. Bulmer had the lone interception of the game.

"The defense was the difference," said Coach Steve Murphy. "The whole team played smart."
