JV quest for undefeated year falls shy
The Whalers junior varsity, looking to go undefeated on the year, ran into a tough Martha's Vineyard squad in Saturday's preliminary contest and fell in a high scoring game, 44-32.

Sophomore running back Troy Sullivan (27) scores against the Vineyard during Saturday's junior varsity action.
"It's the first time that I can recollect in 34 years of coaching that we scored over 30 points and lost," said junior varsity head coach Dennis Caron. "It's not good when you go into a game trying to outscore the other team."

Hakeem Lecky scored three touchdowns for Nantucket, including kickoff returns of 79 and 82 yards. Troy Sullivan also scored on a 7-yard run and caught a conversion pass, and Jamie Viera scored on a touchdown toss from Chris Welch.

The JVs end the season 7-1-1.

"The Vineyard football program has really taken off," Caron noted. "We knew that we were going to have to go through them to stay undefeated, just like the Red Sox have to go through the Yankees."
