O'Mara, Whalers run over Tri County

Senior fullback John O'Mara scored three touchdowns to lead Nantucket to a 32-8 victory in its final road game of the season at Tri County on Saturday.

O'Mara rushed for 103 yards on 17 carries. Senior quarterback Geddes Paulsen passed for 162 yards and two touchdowns. He was 11-16 and completed his last eight passes, including a perfect five-for five in the second half.
Senior wide receiver Mark Dwyer and sophomore tailback Andriquez Farmer each had a touchdown reception for Nantucket.
Nantucket had 356 yards in total offense, including 194 yards rushing. The Nantucket defense held Tri County to 55 yards. Nantucket kicked off to start the game and immediately recovered a Tri County fumble. The Whalers struck quickly, scoring the first points of the game on the second play from scrimmage on an 11 yard reception by Dwyer from Paulsen.
On its next possession, O'Mara rushed in from two yards out for a 12- 0 Nantucket lead at the end of the first quarter. O'Mara followed that with his second touchdown of the day, also a two yard plunge. Nantucket scored on three of its four possessions in the first half and led 18-0 at the break.
In the third quarter, a Nantucket drive stopped at the Tri County one yard line. Dwyer forced Tri County quarterback Chris Campo to throw the ball out of the end zone, resulting in a Nantucket two point safety.
Nantucket took the Tri County kick and pushed out to a 26-0 advantage when Paulsen found Farmer for a 34 yard touchdown pass. Tri County cut the lead to 26-8 when Campo took a quarterback sweep 67 yards up the sideline and then rushed for the two points.
O'Mara closed out the scoring for Nantucket with a one yard rush. The Whalers have won four of their last five games to run the record to 5-4. Nantucket will host winless Diman on Saturday at noon before closing out the 2006 regular season the following Saturday by hosting Martha's Vineyard in the Island Cup game at 1 p.m.
