With a standing permit from the Department of Environmental Protection that allows

openings in spring and fall, Sesachacha Pond was opened to the ocean on Friday afternoon. The openings cleanse the ponds of pollution, refresh them with oxygen and food, and allowfish to swap environments for spawning purposes. Wind and waves

eventually close these openings, restoring the beach to its pre-opening condition.

Hummock Pond was opened to the ocean on Wednesday.
