Nantucket Bookworks 25 Broad Street 228-4000 "Light of the Evening" by Edna O'Brien Edna O'Brien's 18th work of fiction is, at heart, the story of the fraught relationship between Dilly, an elderly Irish woman in a hospital in Dublin, and her daughter, Eleanora, a famous novelist living in London, whom she hopes will visit her. It's a moving, if painful, look at love and family. As always, O'Brien deals with the interplay and the tensions of character and culture. - Dick Burns, Nantucket Bookworks VIDEOS Camera Shop & Nantucket Video 32 Main Street 228-0101 "Monster House" (PG) When objects (footballs, baseballs, people) seem to be disappearing in their neighborhood, two 12 year-old boys suspect that something is wrong with a nearby rotting mansion, owned by old man Nebbercracker (voice by Steve Buscemi). When Nebbercracker is whisked away to the hospital, the two boys and a newfound friend decide to go investigate this so-called "haunted mansion." This animated film by Sony might be a little too scary for little ones. - Laurie Donovan, manager, Nantucket Video Orange Street Video 117 Orange Street 228-5806 "Road to Guantanamo" (R) When a group of British-Pakistanis travel to the Middle East for a wedding, they decide to go to Afghanistan and see the war-torn country firsthand. After one of the men is killed, the remaining three are captured and turned over to the American forces. The so-called "Tipton three" are taken to Guantamo Bay, where they are tortured and held for three years. Even though this film is not a documentary, the harsh reality of what was done to these men is obvious as one follows the road to Guantanamo. Based on a true story. - Kate O'Brien, manager, Orange Street Video |
