From the s i d e l i n e s THINK SPRING Registration for both spring travel soccer and Nantucket Little League will be held this weekend at the Delta Fields. Soccer registration and skills assessment will be held this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28 and 29. Registration for 2nd to 6th graders will take place Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and again on Sunday from noon to 1 p.m. Registration for 7th to 12th graders will be held Saturday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Those who cannot attend should register via e-mail by Oct. 29 at www.nantucketsoccer. org. Registration and tryouts for Nantucket Little League baseball and softball will take place this Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All interested baseball players born between May 1, 1994 and April 30, 1999 and softball players born between December 31, 1994 and December 31, 1998 are asked to pick up a registration packet at A. K. Diamond's restaurant and return it as soon as possible to Jeanne Diamond at the restaurant. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 29. For further information, call Jeanne Diamond at 325-3442. CPS SOCCER NOTES The CPS girls' soccer team had a mixed week of play. After soundly beating Wixon 5-1 the team went down to defeat , 9- 0, against Mattacheese. Both Molly Maloney and Sabrina Dawson tallied two goals each and Ruby Fee added one against Wixon. According to Coach Theresa Friguglietti, Lucy McGowan was the player of the game for Nantucket in the match against Mattacheese. "She played with her heart and soul and won every loose ball." The CPS boys' also saw action last week. On Tuesday, the Boy's beat Wixon 4-1 and on Wednesday, they lost to Mattacheese 7-3 for only the second loss of the season, and to the same team both times. The team's record is 5-2-0. Both teams had games against Nauset cancelled on Saturday due to high winds and the cancellation of the Steamship Authority fast boat. Barring any makeup games, the teams finish up the season against Lighthouse Charter School at home this Friday, October 27th. |
