Field Hockey team outpaces Wareham, Chatham
BY STEVE SHEPPARD
The Whalers kept the pressure on early and late to overtake visiting Wareham Saturday, 3-1, and Chatham Monday, 4-0.

Nantucket scored first in Saturday's game when Grace Ann Tornovish put one into the net on an assist from Erin Lindsay.

Although action was primarily at the visitor's end of the field, Wareham was able to knot the score on a penalty shot.

Nantucket came right back, however, to go ahead for good when Karina Ramirez made a beautiful cross pass to Shellee Dyer who snuck it past the goalie for the 2-1 score.

Co-captain Fraser Long scored on an assist from Dyer for the lone goal of the second half.

Coach Lori Moran was pleased with the effort. "It was a team effort, all fifteen girls contributed, and it was nice to see three different people score," she said. "We knew we had to win that game for a chance to make the state tournament." Combined with Monday's win over Chatham,

Nantucket improved to 6-6-3 on the year. Cassie Moran scored two goals, with Ramirez and Dyer also scoring. The team needs to maintain a .500 record to advance to tournament play with three games to go. "There are six points out there (2 for each win, 1 for every tie) and we need three of them," coach Moran said.
