I ON SELECTMEN
AT ITS OCT. 18 SESSION, THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN:

+ Unanimously approved a request from the Alliance for Substance Abuse and Prevention to designate the week of Oct. 23 - Oct. 31 as Nantucket's Red Ribbon Week in coordination with a national alcohol and drug awareness campaign to encourage youths to make healthy lifestyle choices.

+ Voted 2 - 1 (Bennett in favor) against amending the entertainment license for Cap'n Tobey's. The amendment would have allowed a karaoke machine, which Fire Chief Mark McDougall said he considers a night club use that would trigger the need to bring the establishment's fire system to a higher code level.

+ Unanimously approved an amendment to the town's commercial and recreational shellfish regulations to impose stricter penalties for the taking of scallop seed.

AT ITS MEETING ON OCT. 25,

THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN WILL:

+ Hear an announcement that parking will be allowed on the west side of Surfside Road during voting hours on Oct. 31.

+ Hear a town administrator's report on Chapter 40B of the state's general laws regarding municipal oversight provisions.

+ Hear a departmental overview on Our Island Home.

+ Have a discussion on a joint meeting with the planning commission to develop a housing plan.

+ Vote on approval of the warrant for the state election on Nov. 7.

CONVENING AS THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS,

MEMBERS WILL:

+ Make a special presentation to the Register of Deeds.

Convening as the Board of Health, members will:

+ Hear a review from Health Inspector Richard Ray of draft regulations for rental housing.

At a meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 in the town building conference room the selectmen will hold a workshop to continue

the board's review of its goals for 2006 - 2007.
