"Silence of the Grave" by Arnaldur Indridason If you liked last week's pick, "Jar City," you might want to make plans for long nights snuggling up with Icelandic sensation Indridason's latest thriller, "Silence of the Grave." In this novel, a corpse is found on a hill outside Reykjavik, and our heroic detective, Erlendur Sveinsson, and his team think the body may have been buried for some years. Pursuing the story behind the dead body unearths the secrets of many unhappy Reykjavik families, including Sveinsson's own.

"The Road"
by Cormac McCarthy
($24)
"The Road" is the story of a boy and his father who are living in a postnuclear war America - nothing left but ash, corpses and bands of derelict survivors. They're traveling to the South, because they can't make it another winter in the Northeast, or they'll die. The book is stark, dreary, beautiful and poignant.

"Over the Hedge" (Rated PG)
An animated film from Dreamworks, "Over the Hedge" is as good as animated films get - even funnier and more entertaining than the sequel to Ice Age. It's the story of RJ the raccoon (voiced by Bruce Willis) who has been given one week to replace the food he accidentally destroyed that belonged to a hibernating bear named Vincent (Nick Nolte). RJ gets together his forest friends - including Hammy the squirrel (Steve Carell) and Verne the turtle (Garry Shandling) - and figures out that the answer to his problem might be "over the hedge" which appeared as the result of a new community built during their hibernating period.

"American Dreamz" (Rated PG-13) In this pop-culture send-up, the American Dreamz singing contest has stolen the attention of the American public. Everyone watches in awe as two contestants try to out-sing and outwit their competitors. With an oblivious American president (Dennis Quaid), the attentiongrabbing TV host (Hugh Grant) and the fame-seeking Southern girl (Mandy Moore), "American Dreamz" is a brilliant satire that makes you laugh at everyone including yourself.
