Field Hockey Team overtakes Sturgis
The varsity field hockey team went 1-1 over the weekend, besting Sturgis, 4-1, and taking a moral victory in a 1-0 loss to Falmouth Saturday at home.

Goaltender Katie McInerney had 26 saves for the Whalers in Saturday's rematch against Falmouth.
"Every single girl played the best she could have played," coach Lori Moran said of the game against perennial state tournament competitor Falmouth. "We had shots on net until the end of the game."

Goaltender Katie McInerney recorded 26 saves in the tightly-played contest that Moran called "one of the best played games" she's seen. "The girls came out with all cylinders firing," she said.

The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half that, Moran said, gave her team confidence it could stay competitive with upper tier teams. Falmouth's only goal came on a difficult corner shot.

Against Sturgis, the Whalers saw Karina Ramirez and Shelly Dyer score twice for their fourth win of the season. Erin Lindsay, Sarah Nabulsi, Cassie Moran and Emily Pitts also contributed in the winning effort that also gave Casey Kurash some quality time in goal.

The team is now 4-5-3 on the season, with upcoming games against Martha's Vineyard (Friday) and at home Saturday against Wareham.

"I'm very excited for the team," Moran said. "We're looking good, and I'm still confident we'll

make the state tournament."
