I ON SELECTMEN + Heard an announcement that citizen's articles for the annual Town Meeting 2007 warrant will be accepted from Oct. 16 through Nov. 16. + Heard a presentation from representatives of the Council for Human Services on results from a human needs survey conducted in spring 2006. + Heard a proposal for a Nantucket Marine Collaborative regarding use of the Brant Point boathouse for shellfish propagation and educational programs extending to island students, among other possibilities. + Heard an update on the One Big Beach Program. Town consultant Doug Unruh discussed plans to ensure public access to beaches through homeowner easements, including some in the Nobadeer area already underway, and said there is further interest among landowners in the western Surfside area. + Heard a Town Administrator's report that there is a new fact sheet about Article 17 on the Special Town Meeting warrant available on the town's Web site. Article 17 relates to a $9.5 million override request to supplement funding for the Surfside Wastewater Treatment Facility update. + Unanimously granted approval for the Department of Public Works to submit a funding application for stormwater improvements in the island's downtown and surrounding areas to the state. DPW director Jeff Willett explained that there is a need for new piping, manholes, flappers and other equipment or materials to prevent stormwater discharging into the harbor from returning and creating street flooding. AT ITS OCT. 18 SESSION, THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN WILL: + Hear a reminder about the Special Town Meeting starting at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium on Monday, Oct. 23 and Special Town Election on Oct. 31. + Hear a request for support from the Alliance for Substance Abuse and Prevention which will designate the week of Oct. 23 - Oct. 31 as Nantucket's Red Ribbon Week in coordination with a national alcohol and drug awareness campaign to encourage youths to make healthy lifestyle choices. + Hold a public hearing on amending the entertainment license for Cap'n Tobey's, which was continued from the Sept. 20 meeting. + Hold a public hearing on amending the town's commercial and recreational shellfish regulations. + Hear a Town Administrator's report reviewing Article 17 of the Special Town Meeting and related ballot question for Oct. 31. |
