Level 3 sex offender registers with Nantucket police
CRIME
David P. Raza of 8 Salti Way has registered with the Nantucket Police Department as a Level 3 sex offender.

Police said Raza, 28, recently moved back to the island from Florida and is self-employed. He was recently classified as a Level 3 offender,

which, according to the Massachusetts public safety office, is the level where "the risk of reoffense is high and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active dissemination."

Raza was convicted in 1995 of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years of age and in 1999 for rape and abuse of a child. He has also appeared previously in Nantucket District Court on July 2005 charges of drug distribution, mayhem and assault and battery for which he served six months in the Barnstable House of Correction. Police say Raza is not wanted for any offenses at this time.

The only other Level 3 sex offender registered with the Nantucket Police Department is Donald W. Sparks, 42, of 19 Greglen Ave.

There are three levels of sex offenders in Massachusetts. Where the Sex Offender Registry Board determines that the risk of reoffense is high and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active dissemination, it gives a level 3 designation to the sex offender.
