Storytelling Festival to feature award-winning storytellers, puppeteers
Lighthouse School hosts their Fifth Annual Storytelling Festival September 30 - October 7. The week-long festival, presented in conjunction with Nantucket Arts Council's Arts Festival, and with generous support from Blackwell & Associates, Bookworks, the Community Network for Children, the Nantucket Arts Council, the Nantucket Atheneum and Windwalker Real Estate is a celebration of the art of story featuring participatory performances for all ages and workshops for students, educators, parents and caregivers. This year's festival showcases the talent of award winning storytellers and puppeteers, Yorick's Marionette Theatre, Victor Cockburn, Katie Latimer and Michael Parent.

Nantucket Lighthouse School has expanded the community offerings of their annual Storytelling Festival each year in response to the community's interest in past Festivals. "We are committed to giving back to the Nantucket community through quality family entertainment and educational opportunities, including our After School Program, Yuletide Fair and more. The Storytelling Festival is a meaningful way to provide for Nantucket's children, families and educators," said school co-founder Elizabeth Sundell. This year's festival performers include:

+ Yorick's Marionette Theater, who have entertained and educated children and adults about the art of puppetry and the Czech traditional puppet theater since 1990.

+ Victor Cockburn is the founder of Troubadour, Inc., a nonprofit arts education organization. Troubadour's programs focus on literacy through the arts.

+ Katie Latimer, winner of the 1998 National Youth Storytelling Olympics, has been storytelling professionally since she was 13.

+ Michael Parent, winner of the National Storytelling Network's, "Circle of Excellence" award, has been a storyteller and singer since 1977. I
