Agreement is reached with new assistant superintendent
NES principal, assistant principal and director of technology not yet hired
     Transition in the central office at the Nantucket Public Schools appears to have come to a close with the decision to hire Dr. Carlos Colley as the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Positions remain unfilled at the elementary school and in the technology department.

     On June 28 the selectmen will choose members for vacant seats on nearly two dozen town committees and commissions. The board accepted applications through Friday, June 16 because there were either no applicants or an insufficient pool to choose from for some committees.

     Tony Dimitru, Collections Manager for the Nantucket Historical Association, explains the candle-making process to a delegation from Taiji, Japan, at the Whaling Museum on Sunday, June 11. While whaling is history on Nantucket, it is still practiced in Japan, primarily by the residents of Taiji, who have been whaling for over 400 years; smaller whales, like minke, are taken under the jurisdiction of the Japanese government. The group was here to make an association between their whaling history and Nantucket's, and planned a tour of the New Bedford Whaling Museum before heading to a whaling conference.
