Pops at Jetties this Saturday

Maestro Keith Lockhart leads the orchestra.
The 9th annual Pops on Nantucket concert, a benefit for the Nantucket Cottage Hospital, is this Saturday, Aug. 13, 7 p.m. at Jetties Beach.

Keith Lockhart, who marks his tenth anniversary conducting the Pops, will lead the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra in an “America!” program including Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and the Gettysburg Address, narrated by “Meet the Press” moderator and NBC political analyst Tim Russert. Linda Eder will be the accompanying soloist for the evening. Her first nation-al exposure was on “Star Search,” after which she won a Theatre World Award for Best Broadway Debut for her role of Lucy in “Jekyll & Hyde,” which went on a 35-city tour before opening on Broadway in 1997. Eder has been com-pared to Judy Garland and Ella Fitzgerald, has sold out shows at Carnegie Hall and has made several appearances with the Pops.

The concert is sponsored by Nantucket Island Resorts and Jill and Steve Karp. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and tickets must be purchased in advance of the concert. General admission tickets are $30 and can be purchased through Aug. 12 by visiting the hospital’s Web site, www.nantuckethospital.org, calling 508-825-8181, or in person at the hospi-tal living room, Country Village Real Estate, Murray’s Toggery Shop and Nantucket Visitors Services.
