Small Plane Makes Parachute Landing

NANTUCKET, Mass. (AP) -- Two people escaped serious injury after their small plane made a parachute landing on Nantucket.

FAA spokeswoman Holly Baker said the 830 Cirrus aircraft apparently was trying to land at Nantucket on visual flight rules when the weather went bad Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service, there was some light rain and fog with a light southwest breeze at the time of the crash.

She said the pilot used the plane's safety parachute to make a hard landing in Sconset about five miles east of the Nantucket airport.

She said the pilot, flying with his wife, was taken to a hospital, but no serious injuries were reported.

Baker said the plane is registered to Jackson Thomas of 6 Prospect Street on Nantucket.

The FAA is investigating.7
